Gearald Mercer

Gerald Mercer has extensive experience in education and leadership. His professional work in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador and internationally has kept him abreast of current research and practice in all levels of education particularly in school improvement, teacher professional growth, early childhood education (early years), curriculum and instruction, and in system change and learning. He believes that the methodologies employed in sound early learning classrooms can be adjusted and implemented at higher levels to reach more learners. In 2018, he published A PRACTICAL AND REFLECTIVE GUIDE TO SUSTAINABLE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT, an English book translated into Arabic that has supported school leaders in their quest to develop and improve their schools. Gerald is a licensed international school inspector.

Gerald’s interest in children’s literature and creative activities has had a significant impact on many lives. He has written school textbooks for elementary-aged students, stories for young readers, and has co-authored and illustrated books with his wife. He loves brain-busting puzzles and enjoys the challenge of recreating them for his readers. He contributes to his chosen field through his professional and creative works.

Gerald believes in the unique qualities of each individual and recognizes that a positive outlook is a powerful foundation for personal growth and development. His “YES I CAN” attitude permeates his writing, professional presentations, and project work; and that contributes to building confidence, a growth mindset, and resilience.

Gerald approaches his strength-based endeavours by embedding positive messages in his professional work, children’s books, and stories. His characters’ curiosities drive exploration and real problem solving. He uses vibrant colours in his illustrations and careful wording in his writing to tell stories and provide messages to his readers.

Daphne Mercer has an extensive background in literacy education and has dedicated her professional life to fostering a love of reading. Her literacy passion has made a significant impact on the lives of many children and teachers in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador and internationally. Her belief in the power of children’s literature to develop empathy and understanding drives her zeal to write and share children’s books and activities with her audiences.
